Contributions

Born: Jeanne de La Fonte, September 30, 1898 Lille, France Died: October 5, 1933 Tujunga, CA Renee was born in a circus tent and became a circus performer at age five. At 5'1" in height and weighing a mere 117 lbs, Adoree with her brown hair and blue eyes, seemed larger than life on the big screen. She appeared on Broadway in 1919 in the play ‘The Dancer’ with George Burnett. Married to actor Tom Moore, Renee had lived in Prescott, Arizona for two years, most of which was spent in her bed, trying to get over her illness as she and wanted to return to Hollywood and her career.

Renee Adoree was often paired with John Gilbert, in films including The Big Parade and The Cossacks. The Big Parade combines love and war. This King Vidor classic was one of the biggest box office hits of the silent era, grossing 15 million dollars. It was said Gilbert and Adoree had an on again, off again affair. When Gilbert became infatuated with Garbo, and then married Ina Claire, they remained friends. Both stars died young due to failing health, never duplicating their silent screen success in talking films. Adoree was an animal lover. She was frequently photographed with her beloved dogs.
